Grapefruit

I love half a red grapefruit in the morning for breakfast, and some studies show it helps burn fat! I like to have mine with a couple of blueberries and strawberries for the additional nutrients ❤

The only thing missing from this breakfast above is protein, so it’s good to have a protein shake, or a scrambled egg, or some smoked salmon alongside if possible. It’s not the end of the world if you can’t but it makes the above the PERFECT breakfast instead of just damn good 😉

If you have fruit in the morning, what do you have?

Coconut oil life hack – instant teeth whitening!

coconut.jpgcoconuts-with-leavesCoconut oil is amazing – I love using it as lib balm, shaving cream, body lotion, hair mask, for cooking… And today I discovered another life hack!

I was skeptical when I saw this on instagram and wish I’d taken before and after pictures.

I’ve always really struggled with yellow-y teeth despite being a non smoker because I am a tea and a coffee drinker, and to top that, I don’t have milk – I always drink them black.

For years I’ve been meaning to save up and go and get them whitened professionally as k2-_fa36bb73-3e87-4d20-a520-0778f017b222.v1you hear horror stories about the chemicals etc. in DIY kits – it’s important to use a professional dentist.

But then I saw a natural tip on instagram and had a spare 5 minutes, so I thought I’d give it a shot.

It seems to have worked!

Mix some coconut oil with turmeric. It will look crazy yellow!

Brush it on to your teeth, give them a good scrub.

maxresdefaultLeave for 5 minutes and swill any oil around your mouth, this is no time for swallowing!

When time’s up, spit, rinse your mouth a few times, clean your teeth as normal with toothpaste and voila! Instantly whiter.

It worked for me! I’m going to try it daily for the next 7 days and see if I can give them a real lift. I’ll let you know how it goes.

These aren’t my teeth by the way. But maybe one day 😉

My first ever BBG meet up

12932550_10154137349564571_8024763445942637539_n

One of my new year’s resolutions was to go to my first ever BBG meet up, and oh my gosh was it INCREDIBLE. (if you don’t know what BBG is, scroll down!) If you follow me on insta, you may have seen the video.

There’s no way to say this without it sounding cheesy, but it’s true. It is such an inspiring and motivating group of women, and we had an awesome sweat session followed by a green juice in Planet Organic (my absolute MECCA!)

Huge thanks to the wonderful brands who contributed to goody bags for us – it was lovely to have so many delicious treats ready for after our workout! Alibi, Bounce, Moma, The Primal Pantry and Aduna all donated these awesome products… I ADORED my bounce apple and cinnamon ball, and The Primal Pantry Paleo bar was so delicious. As in, ten times better than chocolate, no lie. I highly recommend you try some!

What is BBG?

If you don’t know what BBG is… check out the hashtag or Kayla’s profile on instagram, and also this website. Kayla Itsines is a trainer based in Australia, who created the bikini body guide to help women get healthier and feel confident in a bikini (it is NOT about being a certain size!) It is great for weightloss and building muscle, but also just for meeting motivated, hardworking and likeminded girls! There are bankers, lawyers, fitness professionals, students, full time moms, the works… all united by their love of fitness.

I highly recommend her app, Sweat With Kayla, available on the app store – it’s only about $4AUD a month, but the meet ups are just the best thing ever. If you’re London, UK based and want in on the action, check out this Facebook group ‘BBG Girls London’. Don’t worry though, a quick instagram or Facebook search and you’ll find meet ups in your area wherever you are in the world!

Even though I teach fitness, I love following programmes like BBG and Tone it Up to mix up my training and be part of a global fitness community.

Monkeyin’ Around

After the meet up, my boyfriend decided to use me as a dumbbell hahaha!

But it was fine, because then as a compromise I said he could lift me if he also helped me stretch!

Zucchini Pizza Party Boats!

10522089_10154074095539571_742486296110860964_nThese little bruschetta inspired babies are more filling than you’d think (I guess zucchini or courgette is basically all water!) and they’re a super fast option for a healthy, pizza craving busting supper after a long day at work.

All you need is:

❤ 1 courgette/zucchini

❤ Some crumbled / chunky chopped goats’ cheese

❤ Chopped plum tomatoes

❤ Black pepper and mixed herbs to taste.

It is this simple:

  1. Preheat your oven to around 180.
  2. Halve your courgettes then halve them again (so you get 4 ‘party boats’ – see picture above!)
  3. Top them with your goats cheese and chopped plum tomatoes. You could also add a little red onion or tuna to vary it.
  4. Place on a baking tray and leave in the oven for around 8 minutes (but it really depends on the power of your oven – check back regularly and some of it will be down to taste – how melty you want the cheese and how soft the courgette!)

You can have these with a mixed salad, I like mine with raw spinach, but you could also have veggies, or kale, or a little quinoa or sweet potato.

They make a nice entree too if you have guests, and they never need know how clean you’re keeping the eating for the evening 😉

Cacao-coconut oatmeal

10371470_10154057192249571_6677453302151696644_n

It doesn’t get much more indulgent (and still clean!) than this!!

All you have to do is serve yourself the same sized portion of oats you would for porridge… about 1/4 of a cup.

(Make sure your oats aren’t flavoured or anything! All natural here please darlings!)

Stir a heaped tablespoon of raw cacao powder (or sugar free cocoa powder) in to your oats. Fill the bowl with water (you can use almond milk if you prefer but water’s my preference) and stir until oats and powder have now made a chocolate shake looking mix.

Stir in a little honey or agave nectar to taste.

Top your cacao-oatmeal smoothie bowl with a sprinkling of coconut, and think about adding almonds, walnuts, pistachios, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries or mint – whatever’s to hand! – to sex it up a little.

Chocolate for breakfast? Who wouldn’t?! And this way it’s totally guilt free!

Egg-free oven oat hotcakes & cinnamon-grilled pear

12802977_10154035249349571_7392243785332497307_n12802918_10154037935879571_6095726577407617577_n

I love these for something quick and a bit different in the morning.

To make the hot oatcakes, you will need…

1/2 cup of oats

1/2 scoop protein powder

1/4 cup of water.

Mix until a thick batter. Add a little more water if needed.

Stir in as much or as little cinnamon as you’d like and add a pinch of baking powder.

Pop onto a greaseproof paper-lined tray and bake in the oven at around 180 C (or maybe 200 if not a fan oven) for 7 – 2 minutes.

Your sliced pear can go in to, sprinkled with cinnamon, to warm.

Voila. Sooooo crazy easy. Serve with some berries, a drizzle of pure organic maple syrup or honey, and you’re good to go.

Bootylicious Berry Smoothie

12963794_10154141186774571_2117300014501066370_nThe Bootylicious Berry Smoothie, otherwise known as ‘Peanut butter & I-don’t-think-you’re-ready-for-this-jelly’ is an amazing breakfast option, but also works as a post workout shake, or an afternoon pick me up!

Bootylicious_CD_Cover

It’s so simple to make too. You can do it with or without protein powder, whatever your preference.

You need: a blender, and then…

2 tbsps organic natural peanut butter, honey, 1/2 banana, frozen raspberries, approx 3 tbsps oats (and 1/2 scoop natural soya protein powder, optional).

Along with maybe 1/4 cup of water, blend your peanut butter half banana, 1 handful of frozen raspberries, oats and optional protein powder until smooth. Take of the lid and check consistency – you can add more water at this stage if needed. You could even use almond milk if you really want, but that’s not my jam.

Add a little liquid if needed, and a teaspoon of honey to taste. Blend, and serve!

You can add chopped nuts, a sprinkle of unsweetened coconut or raw cacao, or a couple of fresh raspberries and some mint to garnish ❤

This is a new favourite for me, and a happy blending accident. Some of the best recipes come from improvisation!
